After Cars and Coffee in Irvine shut down, car enthusiasts in Orange County were struggling to find a new place to meet on Saturday mornings. That place eventually became the Tustin District, a shopping center less than a 10 minute drive from the old Cars and Coffee. The District was a great location due to the huge parking lot and tons of places to eat. Unfortunately it had one minor flaw… the Irvine Company owns it.
The Irvine Company is known for their crazy rules and after just a few gatherings they decided to shut the show down. They didn’t care that people were being respectful and actually driving business to the local shops. I guess if they can’t find a way to make money off it then they don’t want it going on.
I was there for the last Cars and Coffee at The District and it was a great turnout. There were tons of Porsches, BMWs, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and even some old muscle cars. The location was great for photos and I had a nice opportunity to try out my new lens, a Sigma 50-150mm. Unlike some of the other shows that get super crowded, this place was pretty spread out and had tons of open space.
It’s unfortunate the show wasn’t allowed to continue but I think everyone knew it wouldn’t last for long… that’s just how things go in Irvine. We’re still waiting for another official Cars and Coffee to pop up in Orange County but until then we’ll have to settle for the small shows that pop up every here and there.
